Running Vibram Fivefinger Shoes Review
Vibram Fivefingers Bikila Shoe

These shoes to anyone who wants to strengthen muscles in their feet and calves. They are so comfortable that I often wear them at work (walking on hard floors all shift). I have a bulging disk and have trouble with back pain, but the forefoot strike prevents jarring unlike heel-to-toe movement.
The added shock absorption in the forefoot is a definite plus.
Don’t expect to feel great and run faster on your first couple times out on these. In fact, you can count on sore calves and slower running time for the first 50 miles. Don’t push it too hard – run a mile or two and then back off. Also, take a look at your running form – there are some great youtube videos on barefoot running- and make sure you are not running like you do in “spring-loaded” shoes (heel strike – that is NOT how we were designed to run).
They really work your calf’s because they force you to land on the balls of your feet (exactly as you should run).
FiveFingers Bikila Shoes are fantastic.
When I go out sailing these are the kind of shoes you want. Feels like you are barefoot yet the grip of the soles is powerful (typical of Vibram quality).
When I go for a swim in the lake FiveFingers are a must. I can swim freely but still I don’t hurt the soles of my feet on the bottom of the lake.
I like this style better because sand doesn’t get inside whereas the mary jane style does.
Also the back of the shoe is raised and that means no blisters even without socks.
When I’m back home I just throw them in the washer and dryer and they are good to go again!
Bikila versus Sprint
Fit: I found it easier to get the right size in the Bikila, plus the heel is a snugger more traditional fit.
Grip: The Bikila is ridged and won’t slip in the wet.
Durability: I expect the Bikila to last longer.
Barefootedness: The Sprint is lighter, more flexible and gives even less support, if that’s the direction you’re heading.
Barefoot
Fit: Not a problem.
Grip: Can be difficult in the wet.
Durability: If treated with care, should last a lifetime.

Vibram Fivefingers Treksport Blk/Charcoal
The vibram five finger treks are a great all around shoe. The sole is heavy duty with deep tread for great traction. Gravel is toast under these soles! While I’m not a runner, you could do some running in these. These are a good daily shoe, and I use them on the treadmill as well.
